Common Types of Dementia:

1. Alzheimer’s Disease:
- The most prevalent form of dementia, accounting for 60-80% of cases.
- Characterised by memory loss, confusion, and changes in behaviour.
- It progresses in stages, eventually impacting daily activities.


2. Vascular Dementia:
- The second most common type, often resulting from strokes or reduced blood flow to the brain.
- Symptoms can include problems with reasoning, planning, and judgment.
- It may occur suddenly or gradually, depending on the nature of the underlying vascular issues.


3. Lewy Body Dementia:
- Associated with abnormal protein deposits in the brain called Lewy bodies.
- Symptoms may include visual hallucinations, movement difficulties, and fluctuations in attention and alertness.
- Often shares symptoms with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases.


4. Frontotemporal Dementia:
- Primarily affects the frontal and temporal lobes of the brain, impacting personality, behaviour, and language.
- Symptoms can include dramatic changes in personality, impulsive behaviour, and difficulty with speech.
